about guitars
| I've always been fascinated by
the look of different guitars, as well as the sound of different
guitars. Not only it tells us how a guitar is meticulously crafted by
its luthier, it also tells us a different story behind each individual
instrument.

about the guitars I owned

| This is my first guitar. Had it when I was 14. Wasn't meant for me anyway. My brother bought this guitar for RM$50. My cousin and I, sort of modified the guitar (or custom-made, you might say), and thus it looks quite different from the usual China-made Kapok. I call it the 'Yin-Yang Kangyang Signature Model'. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| The first guitar that I paid for, using my very first pay check. This guitar is basically an Ovation imitation, which sounds comparable to a Korean-made Ovation guitar. Bought this guitar from Davis Guitar Music Centre back in 1995 when I first formed a band. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| My first electric guitar from Singapore's local music store, Swee Lee Company. This guitar is said to be no longer in production. This guitar is fitted with 3 Texas-Special pickups, and is good for playing blues, with the classic Fender twang. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Another semi-acoustic guitar. This is an American-made dreadnought acoustic, made to look and sound like the classic vintage Guild. Now that Guild has moved from Westerly Rhode Island to Corona, many of the acoustic models have been discontinued, including this fella. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| The smallest guitar that I've seen. Then again, I haven't seen that many guitars as yet. As the name implies, this is a hybrid of a guitar and a ukulele. Bought this baby from Music Plaza. Due to its size, this guitar makes a good traveller. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| The remarkable invention by 2 geniuses, Alun Ashworth-Jones and Nigel Thornbory. This is a silicon-stringed bass with a sound similar to a double bass. One-of-a-kind, only from DeArmond. You gotta hear it to believe it. Truly a class of its own. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| 1962 vintage Guild archtop guitar, previously known as X-50 Granada. Everything is original except that the volume knob had been replaced with a black one instead. This archtop beauty is in very good condition. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| A very rare guitar from Guild. According to Hans Moust (author of The Guild Book), only 61 of these were made. This thin-line solid body nylon-string guitar was only in production from 1984-86. This short-lived fella continues to play strong after all these years. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| My latest collection, approved and well-liked by my baby. This is a German-made guitar, well-crafted by Martin Seeliger and the craftsmen at Lakewood Guitars. Very 'resounding'... | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| This is one weirdo that we have here. It's a baritone, as well as a 6-string bass, depending on how you tune this fella. Well, I must be the first proud owner in Singapore! For the first time in Gretsch history, a Bigsby vibrato will be featured on a bass guitar, giving the bass/guitar player the use of a fully functional vibrato. |
